SMART Scholars must be pursuing an eligible degree in one of 21 approved STEM disciplines.
During phase 1, retention SMART Scholars must work less than full-time to avoid interfering with graduation and post-graduate employment start times.

DD Form 3067-15 – SMART Scholarship Revised Degree Completion Plan
SMART Scholarships offer full tuition, stipends, summer internships, and guaranteed employment with the Department of Defense (DoD) after graduation. The program awards scholarships, ranging from 1.5 to 5 years, to undergraduate and graduate-level students pursuing a degree in one of 21 technical disciplines critical to national security functions.
Upon graduation, scholars fulfill a service commitment with the DoD facility that nominated them for an award. This is part of the DoD’s overall effort to increase the number of new civilian STEM entrants into the DoD and the DoD’s civilian workforce.
If you are interested in applying to a SMART Scholarship, be sure to complete the SMART scholarship application form and submit it with two references and your transcripts. You will also need to write a personal statement explaining why you want to be a SMART Scholar and how your education will help you further the DoD’s mission.
Once you have submitted your SMART Scholarship application, you will need to fill out DD Form 3067-15 to confirm that you are in fact eligible for the scholarship. This form is an official DoD form and can be found online or at your local military base. While a DD Form 3067-15 may seem like a daunting task, it can be done with the right amount of dedication and determination.
