The DD Form 1209 – Determinations of plastic and liquid limits is used to record the moisture content in the soil. This document consists of several parts, including the plastic limit, which is the maximum moisture content at which soil turns plastic. In other words, it tells how much moisture a soil can hold before it starts crumbling or cracking under pressure. The plastic limit also includes the shrinkage limit, which is the level at which further loss of moisture will not produce any further volume reduction.
